Perhaps there were no human-like people that existed at the same time as anything more exotic, but we couldn’t help but imagine the whole game would’ve been a lot more fun if it’d just made up some throwaway time travel story and stuck dinosaurs in there as well. But disappointingly most of the other animals look barely any different from their modern day versions, whether they be bears, honey badgers, birds of prey, or deer. Riding a sabretooth tiger or woolly mammoth into battle is obviously a key draw of the game. The latter requires considerable upgrades, and a (literal) trip with your spirit guide, or otherwise all you can make friends with is various dogs and wolves. Much of this is thanks to the ecosystem of animals, all of which you can hunt and/or tame. Some effective use of colour and atmospheric weather effects work well though, and there’s always plenty going on on-screen. This slowly sees your home base build up into a bustling village, to which you can apply simple upgrades, and which in turn expands your access to upgrades and resources.Įxploring the huge game world is though, even if the graphics are never particularly dazzling on a technical level – despite this being the first current gen-only Far Cry. You take it upon yourself to recreate the tribe, bigger and better than before, by rescuing and recruiting ordinary people and certain specially skilled individuals. Primal casts you as a survivor of a tribe that has almost been wiped out by a rival group of cannibals. But the prehistoric setting means that the only element that Primal can convincingly deliver on is the open world – even though it tries its best with the others. What is a problem though, is that Far Cry is known for four main things: its huge open world its wide variety of land, sea, and air vehicles its solid shooter gameplay and its charismatic bad guys (at least in the last two). In side the Advance Graphics Menu the game does not have any. In terms of Graphical settings Far Cry Primal is very similar to Far Cry 4, offering the ability to easily change your resolution and aspect ratio when needed and the ability to easily turn off V-Sync. Unusually for a major franchise there are almost no story connections between any of the mainline Far Cry sequels, so setting this one in the year 10,000 BC creates no problems in that regards.
